Source-led route

Keep your plan small. Follow the main story, build one dependable party and spend resources only when they solve an immediate progression problem. Genshin Impact introduces quests, characters, weapons, currencies and upgrade systems in quick succession, so a narrow first week is easier to steer than a broad one.

This sourced draft relies on HoYoverse Help Center pages checked on August 26, 2026. It does not claim a fresh-account field test, a character or weapon ranking, a control preset, an Artifact outcome or any guaranteed result. The route and party priorities are editorial choices, while game-system facts are linked to official support pages. Unlock conditions and interface labels must be checked again in the live PC client before publication.

Action plan

The short beginner plan

Use this order when several activities compete for your attention.

  1. Continue the current Archon Quest until the story blocks your progress.
  2. Activate nearby Teleport Waypoints while traveling to quest objectives.
  3. Choose four characters that cover damage, elemental reactions and recovery.
  4. Upgrade those characters and their weapons before spreading materials across the full roster.
  5. Use Original Resin on materials needed by that active party.
  6. Complete the available daily reward path when it is available on your account.
  7. Return to exploration or optional quests when you want a different activity.

This is an editorial route, not a claim that every account must follow the same order. A player who values exploration can move more slowly without damaging the account.

Section 02

Build one useful party first

Early progression becomes harder when every new character receives equal investment. Start with one party and give each slot a simple job.

Party job What to look for Beginner decision
On-field damage A character whose normal rotation feels clear Fund this character first
Elemental support An off-field skill or burst that helps trigger reactions Keep enough Energy Recharge to use the burst reliably
Second support Buffing, shielding, grouping or another element Choose the role that fixes the party's weakness
Recovery Healing or strong damage prevention Prefer consistency while learning encounters

The exact characters matter less than a party you understand. Test how skills interact before spending rare materials. If combat starts to feel difficult, HoYoverse recommends reviewing weapons, Artifacts and Talent levels. Its support guidance says that World Rank can be lowered by one level after World Rank 3, with a 24-hour interval before another change. See what to do when the game feels too difficult[5] and how to lower your World Rank[7].

Evidence record

Spend resources on current needs

Original Resin is used to claim rewards from Domains, Ley Line Outcrops and boss challenges. HoYoverse states that it regenerates at one point every eight minutes and has a cap of 200. Fragile Resin restores 60 points when used. The official advice is to avoid leaving Resin at the cap and to prioritize materials needed for current character or weapon upgrades. See Effective Resin Management[1].

A practical early spending order is:

  1. Character ascension materials when a level cap blocks progress.
  2. Weapon ascension materials for the weapons used by the active party.
  3. Talent materials when the relevant Talents become upgradeable.
  4. Character experience materials or Mora when either resource stops progression.
  5. Artifact farming only when the current set no longer supports the party's immediate needs.

This order is intentionally flexible. HoYoverse confirms that Talent Books come from Domains of Mastery and rotate by day, while higher Talent levels can require weekly or elite boss materials. Check the character upgrade screen, identify the blocked requirement and farm that item instead of following a rigid calendar. See How do I get materials for talent upgrades?[6]. Artifact acquisition and enhancement remain probability-based, so this draft does not promise a particular result from an Artifact Domain. See Information on Artifact Farming[8].

Action plan

Plan weapon upgrades before entering a Domain

Weapon upgrades require ascension materials, enemy materials, enhancement ore and Mora. HoYoverse notes that Domain of Forgery rewards rotate by day. The Adventurer's Handbook can track common and elite enemies, while the in-game schedule identifies when a required Domain material is available. See the official page on farming weapon upgrade materials[3].

Before spending Resin, check three things:

  • The exact material required by the weapon.
  • Whether its Domain reward is available that day.
  • Whether the weapon will remain in the active party long enough to justify the upgrade.

Enhancement ore and Mora are useful, but the best early upgrade is the one that removes the next real progression block.

Action plan

Use daily rewards without turning the game into a checklist

The daily commission system can award four commission rewards per day. HoYoverse also documents Encounter Points and Long-Term Encounter Points as alternate ways to claim those rewards. When Long-Term Encounter Points are available, spending 30 Original Resin can be used to claim one commission reward. See How do Encounter Points work?[2].

For a new account, the useful rule is simple. Complete the available daily reward path, spend Resin when it is close to the cap and then return to the part of the game you enjoy. Do not interrupt a story session merely to optimize every possible resource.

Section 06

Keep Adventure Rank and World Level in view

Adventure Rank controls access to parts of the game. At certain milestones, an Ascension Quest can cap further rank progression until it is completed. HoYoverse states that Adventure EXP earned while capped is stored and applied after the required quest is cleared. See Why is my Adventure Rank not increasing?[4].

Before completing an Ascension Quest, check that the active party has current weapons, character levels and important Talents. This is not a reason to delay indefinitely. It is a quick readiness check before enemy difficulty increases.

Action plan

A flexible first-week checklist

First sessions

  • Follow the Archon Quest and learn the combat controls.
  • Activate Teleport Waypoints encountered along the route.
  • Try new characters before committing upgrade materials.
  • Keep one main party equipped and leveled.

When daily rewards are available

  • Claim the available daily rewards.
  • Spend Resin on a material that the active party currently needs.
  • Check the weapon material schedule before entering a Domain.
  • Continue the Archon Quest or a World Quest that opens the next area or system.

When progress slows

  • Check weapon levels first.
  • Check character ascension and important Talent levels.
  • Review whether the party has reliable recovery.
  • Complete the required Adventure Rank Ascension Quest if rank progress is capped.
  • Use the in-game feedback and support tools if a quest or system does not behave as documented.

Separate a progression plan from a hardware claim

Party building and Resin spending are gameplay decisions. This Guide does not publish system requirements, an FPS estimate, a GPU or CPU recommendation, or a graphics preset. For specifications and an upgrade path, see the Hardware article Genshin Impact PC requirements and a sensible upgrade path, slug genshin-impact-pc-requirements. For graphics and launcher work, see the Setups article at slug genshin-impact-pc-graphics-baseline.

Action plan

Beginner mistakes to avoid

Funding every character immediately

New characters are tempting, but a wide roster can leave the active party short of Mora and upgrade materials. Test first, then invest.

Farming without checking the schedule

Weapon material availability changes by day. Confirm the required item and schedule before spending Resin.

Spending premium currency to solve a routine resource problem

HoYoverse lists Primogems as one way to refill Resin, but also describes them as premium currency. Treat that option as a deliberate account decision, not the default response to an empty Resin balance.

Treating an Adventure Rank cap as lost progress

Stored Adventure EXP is applied after the required Ascension Quest is completed. Check the quest menu before assuming the account is stuck.

What to verify before publication

RigCircuit still needs to replay this route on a fresh PC account. The final check must record the client build, current unlock conditions, exact menu labels and any regional differences. Until that check is complete, this article remains a sourced draft rather than a field-tested guide.
